The 5 days of the volcanoes gives visitors a chance to explore all the activities in the volcanoes national Park which is located in the northern province of Rwanda.

Detailed Itinerary.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND TRANSFER TO VOLCANOES NP.

Arrival at Kigali international Airport, after all the airport formalities our representative will warmly welcome you outside the immigration and customs hall. Transfer to Volcanoes national park. Have a briefing bout the tour by our representative. Take a rest so as to prepare for a fresh start of the trip. Check in and overnight stay at one and only gorilla nest.

DAY 2: GORILLA TREKKING.

Early morning breakfast and transfer to the park reception. Arrival at the park reception for registration, briefing and grouping. After all the park formalities, transfer to the starting point and then embark on the lifetime experience of trekking the endangered mountain gorillas in the thick forests. Once the gorillas are spotted, your allowed to spend one hour looking at them while playing, feeding and taking pictures with short videos.

DAY 3: MUSANZE CAVES AND ETHNO-BOTANY TOURS.

Early morning breakfast and transfer to Musanze cave. Musanze Cave is 2km long and lies in the volcanic region dating back 65 million years, where the lava flows contributed to the Albertine Rift Valley. The cave is part of the lava basaltic layers from the Bisoke and Sabyinyo volcanoes. The cave has 31 entrances, most being roof collapses. The main cave has an entrance the size of a cathedral and is home to a sizeable bat colony. The collapses create an incredible array of coloured shafts of light shining into the cave.

Musanze Cave has been used as a shelter during wartime for many centuries and was the site of a massacre during the genocide. It continues to hold considerable significance to local people, so visitors are requested to be respectful when exploring.

Ethno-Botany Tours.

Visitors get a chance to visit local’s gardens where they grow plants that are used for local herbs. The local herbalist will do a comprehensive introduction to the visitors on learning different medicinal values of different plants. After the field tour, the visitors will be taken to visit the local pharmacy and also have the opportunity to meet individuals who have been or may be under treatment and also follow up their recovery stages. Overnight stay at One&only Gorilla Lodge.

DAY 4: GOLDEN MONKEYS AND IBYIWACU CULTURAL VILLAGE.

Early morning breakfast and transfer to the park reception for a briefing, registration and grouping. After all the park formalities, embark on the journey to Golden monkey trekking. It is now believed that they are the only feasible population of Golden Monkeys residing in Volcanoes National Park. They are beautiful and endangered primates which have become quite habituated to humans, making it possible to observe.

Get back to the lodge and have lunch.

After lunch, transfer to Ibyiwacu cultural village for community tours. Ibyiwacu cultural village gives visitors a chance to share with local people on home and heritage treasures including lifestyles, activities, artifacts and ways of living of Rwandans. Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village showcases the ways of living, traditional lifestyles and dances.

Overnight stay at one&only Gorilla nest.

DAY 5: DEPARTURE.

Transfer Back to Kigali, drop off at Kigali International Airport and wish a good bye.

When Packing:

Don’t forget a windbreaker or a light raincoat. When tracking gorillas you will be in a rain forest, so it will more likely than no rain. You will need good walking shoes, socks that’s for hiking, Gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking. Garden gloves are also recommended to avoid stinging nettles. A light sweater for the evening is recommended and generally long sleaves and trousers worn at this time will help keep the mosquitoes away. If you enjoy swimming, bring your swimming costume, the main hotels in Kigali all have swimming pools. If your itinerary includes Lake Kivu at either Karongi or Rubavu, you will have the opportunity to swim in the lake but kindly follow the advice of the guide. A torch should be recommended for every adventure destination and Rwanda is no exception.
