Itinerary

1Arrival in Kigali and welcome dinner

Arrive at Kigali International Airport where you will be met by your guide and warmly welcomed to Rwanda. Transfer to a charming guesthouse in Kigali and check in.

Depending on arrival time, enjoy an optional visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial for historical context and reflection.

In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring local Rwandan flavors. Overnight in Kigali.

2Kigali city and cultural tour

After breakfast, head out for a Kigali city and cultural tour. Visit the Nyamirambo Women’s Center for a guided walking tour through one of Kigali’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Interact with the locals and learn about their lifestyle.

Explore local markets, art galleries, and community initiatives before stopping for lunch at a cultural restaurant.

Return to the hotel in the evening for overnight in Kigali.

3Transfer to Akagera National Park and boat safari

After breakfast, depart Kigali and drive eastwards to Akagera National Park. Enjoy scenic countryside views along the way before checking in at a comfortable lodge near the park and have lunch.

In the afternoon, go for a boat safari on Lake Ihema where hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species dominate the shoreline. End the day with sunset views over the savannah.

4Full-day wildlife safari in Akagera

Wake up early for a delicious breakfast, then head out for a full-day game drive in Akagera National Park. Explore the park’s diverse landscapes in search of elephants, giraffes, lions, antelopes, buffaloes, and other wildlife.

Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park. In the afternoon, return to the lodge area with an optional short nature walk near the lodge. Overnight outside the park at a nearby lodge.

5Return to Kigali with cultural stop

After breakfast, begin the return journey to Kigali.

Stop en route at the Imigongo Art Center to learn about this unique traditional Rwandan art style and interact with local artists.

Continue to Kigali and spend the evening at leisure. Overnight in Kigali.

6Transfer to Lake Kivu (Karongi)

Leave Kigali in the morning after breakfast and drive westwards through Rwanda’s rolling hills to Lake Kivu in Karongi.

Check in at a lakeside guesthouse and enjoy a delicious lunch and relaxed afternoon by the water. In the evening, take a sunset boat ride on Lake Kivu, soaking in the calm atmosphere and scenic views.

Overnight in Karongi.

7Lake Kivu leisure and exploration

Enjoy a relaxed day at Lake Kivu. Optional activities include a coffee plantation visit, a guided nature walk, kayaking, or simply relaxing by the lakeshore.

Explore Karongi town at your own pace before returning to the guesthouse for overnight.

8Transfer to Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast, drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Check in at a guesthouse near the forest and have lunch.

Spend the evening on a gentle birdwatching walk or a tea plantation walk around the park area.

9Nyungwe canopy walk and nature trails

Begin the day with breakfast, then embark on the famous Nyungwe canopy walk, a gentle suspension bridge experience offering breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy.

Have lunch in the afternoon, enjoy guided nature trails such as the Igishigishigi trail or a walk to Kamiranzovu Swamp. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight in Nyungwe.

10Cultural encounters and forest walks

Today focuses on culture and deeper forest exploration. Visit Banda village for cultural immersion, learning about local traditions and daily life around Nyungwe.

Later, enjoy an optional waterfall hike within the forest. Return to the lodge for overnight near Nyungwe.

11Transfer to Musanze (Volcanoes region)

After breakfast, depart Nyungwe and drive northwards to Musanze in the Volcanoes region. Check in on arrival and have lunch, with the guesthouse offering views of the Virunga volcanoes.

Spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the cool mountain atmosphere. Overnight in Musanze.

12Volcanoes nature walks and culture

After breakfast, go for guided nature walks to the Twin Lakes or explore Buhanga Eco Park, a culturally significant forest site.

In the afternoon after lunch, opt for a visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for traditional performances and storytelling. Overnight in Musanze.

13Golden monkey trekking

After breakfast, head to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking. This experience is less strenuous and offers playful encounters with these beautiful primates in the bamboo forest.

Alternatively, spend the day relaxing or exploring Musanze town. Overnight in Musanze.

14Return to Kigali and departure

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. Stop for souvenir shopping or lunch along the way before being transferred to the airport for departure, marking the end of the 14 Days All-Round Visit Rwanda Safari.
