Itinerary

1 Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Leave Kigali in the morning and begin a scenic drive southwest through Rwandaโ€™s rolling hills toward Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Along the way, enjoy the changing landscapes and lush countryside that give Rwanda its nickname, the Land of a Thousand Hills.

Arrive near Nyungwe in the afternoon, check in at the lodge, and spend the evening relaxing as forest sounds surround you. Dinner and overnight near Nyungwe Forest.

2Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your chimpanzee trekking experience. Nyungwe Forest is home to one of the largest chimpanzee populations in East Africa, along with other primates such as colobus monkeys, Lโ€™Hoestโ€™s monkeys, and vervet monkeys.

Trek through the dense rainforest as you listen to the calls of chimpanzees echoing through the canopy. Once found, observe their energetic behavior as they feed, groom, and move through the trees. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

3Canopy walk and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, return to Nyungwe Forest for the famous canopy walk. Suspended high above the forest floor, the canopy walkway offers breathtaking views of the rainforest and a unique perspective of birds and primates moving through the treetops.

After the walk, have a delicious meal for lunch, check out and begin your journey northwards to Volcanoes National Park, driving through scenic countryside and rural communities. Arrive near the park in the evening for dinner and overnight.

4Gorilla trekking and Iby'Iwacu Cultural Tour

Very early in the morning, head to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules and guidelines. After being assigned a gorilla family and rangers, begin the trek through the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains. The trek may take several hours, but the reward is an unforgettable one hour spent with a mountain gorilla family in their natural habitat.

After lunch, visit Ibyโ€™Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about local traditions, songs, dances, and the history of communities living around the park.

Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

5Golden monkey trekking and return to Kigali

After breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking. These playful and energetic primates are found in the bamboo forests at the foot of the Virunga volcanoes.

Spend time observing their behavior before returning to the lodge to have lunch and freshen up.

Later, begin the drive back to Kigali for drop-off at the hotel or airport, marking the end of our primate trekking safari
